Pet Sculptures with Sue Carey

Advance registration is required for all classes. Before registering, please review Vermont’s Cross-State Travel Policy. Please review our classroom policy during the health emergency. Registration Deadline: July 18, 2021 Class Description: Do you have or had a pet that holds a special place in your heart?  This class gives you an opportunity to create a wool sculpture of your favorite pet while learning or improving your needle felting skills.  Instruction will be given on different wool types, wool processing, and felting needles so students can use the correct tools and materials when creating their unique sculpture.   Planning, designing, and producing felted shapes will be discussed.  Various felting techniques will be taught so that students can realize their own ideas.  Sue will provide the wool so if unusual colors are desired, please contact her before the workshop. Students should bring pictures of their pets from all angles.  Also, bring old cloth towels and a sharp scissors.  Instructor will provide other materials. NOTE: Tuition includes a $25 one-time registration fee. If you have already paid the fee, it will be deducted from your total before your card is charged. Instructor Biography: Sue Carey first started raising sheep 30 years ago and became interested in using her sheep’s fiber for needle felting over 20 years ago. Being a fiber artist and shepherd, are two passions that integrate extremely well with the sheep’s wool providing raw material for her artistic endeavors. As a shepherd, she has gained extensive knowledge of wool including proper ways of nurturing, genetics, handing, and processing. A Bachelor of Science in Biology helps with the visual creation of realistic birds and animals. She enjoys experimenting with different techniques to craft her unique sculptures. Sue teaches her style of felting throughout the Northeast.
