Plymouth

Plymouth, Vermont

Located on Rt. 100 &100A, Plymouth is comprised of two small villages, Plymouth and Plymouth Notch, home of President Calvin Coolidge.

Plymouth is a Vermont treasure.  This small hill town is virtually unchanged since 1923, when in the old family homestead, Vice President Coolidge was sworn in as the 30th President of the United States.

Historic Plymouth Notch is carefully preserved. The village church, general store, cheese factory, and community dance hall that served as the 1924 Summer White House office offer visitors a glimpse of a gentler time.

Plymouth, VermontJust down the road is the Coolidge State Forest with seasonal campsites and trails for hiking. In the heat of the summer, be sure to spend some time at Camp Plymouth State Park on beautiful Echo Lake, where you can swim, rent boats, play horseshoes or  volleyball, or take advantage of their extensive playground.

Dear Plymouth Community Members and Friends,

Our town roads crumbled. Our bridges washed away. Approximately 100 of our homes were either destroyed or damaged. Yet in the face of this disaster, the residents of Plymouth have come together in unprecedented ways to repair, rebuild and recover together.

Now that the damages have been assessed and the roads out of Plymouth have become more passable, we are ready for the next challenge. Many among us lost homes, income, and personal property. Plymouth residents and second home owners alike are now pooling our personal resources to create a recovery fund to provide direct assistance to those who suffered losses from Irene.

While FEMA will provide grants to some, the maximum FEMA will give is $30,400, which will not rebuild a destroyed house. Neither will FEMA cover all the types of costs Plymouth residents may have, especially as winter quickly approaches. For cases where public funds are not available or are not enough, the Plymouth Memory Tree will help fill in the financial gaps to help rebuild this community.

Your donation today to the Plymouth Memory Tree recovery fund will go a long way. Friends and residents of Plymouth have already contributed nearly $15,000. Thanks to the generosity of Farm & Wilderness campers, alums, parents and friends the Farm & Wilderness Foundation has agreed to match all additional gifts received dollar for dollar up to $10,000. This challenge grant will double the impact of every dollar that Plymouth residents give to the Memory Tree recovery fund. Our goal is to establish a fund of $50,000 that will provide recovery assistance to full time residents over the next year.

If you are in need of assistance, rather than able to help at this time, an application will be available from the Plymouth Recovery Assistance Center at the elementary school.

We are all in this together. Let’s share this difficult rebuilding process by supporting our neighbors and friends now, when they need it the most.  When all is said and done, Plymouth will again be a beautiful town and our community members will be secure in knowing that we will stand together when it counts.

Sincerely,

Jill Davies
