Tech Sector Salaries Boom in Vermont – More good news from the tech sector: Vermont ranked among the top 5 states for fastest growing tech sector salaries in the U.S. per Dice.com, jumping 16.5% from 2012-2013, with an average salary of $80,809.
Who’s Growing? VEGI helps Businesses Create 557 New Jobs – Vermont rewards companies that are expanding and hiring here with The Vermont Employment Growth Incentive. In the last round of awards, $3.8 million went to businesses from around the state ranging from Northfield’s Cabot Hosiery, makers of the now-famous Darn Tough brand of socks to National Hanger in Bennington to Precyse, which will train people statewide in medical coding. The 8 businesses who received awards are projected to create 557 jobs over the next four years with an average employee compensation of $50,385.
Everyone is Moving Where? Vermont! – In January 2015, United Van Lines, the nation’s largest mover, released its annual National Mover Study which looks at where people are moving to and from. In 2014 Vermont ranked among the Top 4 Moving Destinations in the country, with 59% of the moves being inbound and 37% of those moves being for a job.
Vermont Named “The Smartest State” – Is Vermont really the smartest state? That’s what Movoto, the real estate firm concluded. After analyzing Twitter posts (“Tweets”) from residents in every state to determine the average grade reading level, it found Vermont led the pack, followed by Wyoming and Massachusetts and Minnesota. Those findings are actually backed up by more scientific data: Vermont, Massachusetts and Minnesota also are among the top 10 states in the country for 8th grade reading proficiency and Vermont has the highest number of colleges and universities per capita.
